Music Video Mood Board for Childish Gambino's '3005'
Music Video Mood Board for Childish Gambino's 'Bonfire'
Music Video Mood Board for Childish Gambino's 'Sober'
From these mood boards it is clear to me that his genre is
very relaxed and cool. It’s quite obvious that he is a relaxed person that is shown
in his music videos as well as his mannerism and style choices. His videos also
all feature him as a centre piece, showing that the video is all about him and
furthers that he is the main focus. All of his videos have a clear tone to
them, which relate to the tone and genre of the song it’s for. This is why the
music videos for ‘3005’ and ‘Sober’ feature very relaxed and smooth camera movements
with limited cuts, with very calm and simple colour pallets. This is done
purposely in order to suit the style of the song. This point can be developed thanks
to the music videos for ‘Freaks and Geeks’. Both these songs are faster paced
and feature Childish Gambino being rapping a lot faster and more aggressively. This
is conveyed in the videos thanks to quicker pace of editing and more focused
colour pallets. By changing the music video tone to match that of the song
makes the two elements link together and feel a lot more suited for each other,
making the two look like they suit together. This is something that is featured
throughout his videos.
A narrative is present in ‘sober’ and ‘bonfires’ music
videos. Both of these videos seem to have a plot that is directly linked to the
lyrics of the song. Much like the tone of the videos, the narrative is
something that can help bring the lyrics and video together. This is smart as
it makes for a more professional and enjoyable video.
The locations for these 4 videos are, once again, different
depending on the tone of the song itself. This is shown through the two more aggressive
songs, Bonfire and Freaks and Geeks, having a lot less relaxed settings than 3005
and Sober. Which both respectively feature a Ferris wheel at night, with bright
and colourful lights and a colourful Café with only two people in, making it
seem relaxed and simple, much like the tone of the song. The faster paced video
for Bonfire, which is set on the scene of a suicide, shows that his videos are
well thought out and well thought out tonal connections between the lyrics and
the video.
In order to keep these traits in the music video we will
create for ‘Sweatpants’ we will try to use some of these traits and put our own
twists on them. We plan on making a slower paced video for his slower song. This
will allow us to keep the theme of matching the lyrics and the video together. We
will also implement a narrative into our video. We will feature one main person
on the video, which is also similar to Gambino’s.
This is my masterpiece
